"As a first-time author, I really had no idea what to expect when I signed on with ABP. I had heard stories of how difficult it was to work with editors and publishers in general, so I suppose I anticipated some battles...
Thankfully, this was NOT a problem! My editor, Lisa Tawney, was very professional and did an excellent job with my manuscript. Since my book was actually a pre-school curriculum, there was a lot of difficult formatting that needed to be done as well as the general editing - and Lisa did a fantastic job in both aspects! And because my curriculum is a 2-book set, Cheri Carroll had to design 2 separate book covers and both were wonderful! As I look ahead with anticipation to the marketing phase of this new adventure, I have only good things to say about my experience with American Book."

"American Book Publishing, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You
have made my dream come true. Your wonderful editor, Jennifer did a terrific
job. Thanks, Jen! I couldn't have done it without you. Your timely ideas and
long suffering with my written southern drawl, had to be taxing at times.
lol. Before Jen was completely through with the editing, Jana Rade, Director
of Design was already working on the cover artwork. You talk about
efficient! Then came marketing. Jeff Townsend and Jeanette Boswell, Director
of Public Relations, took me under their wings, so to speak, and helped me
focus my efforts on my target market. I think that because the entire staff
at ABP seemed to work together like a well greased wheel, I have a better
novel, than when I signed on with ABP. Thanks again, to Mr. Nathan
Fitzgearl, Director of Operations, and the entire staff at American Book
Publishing for believing in me and Mahan Mountain."

"My experience with American Book Publishing has been exceptional. Kera Washburn is incredibly skilled and knowledgeable in the field of editing, not to mention a pleasure to work with since this was my first novel.
The design and art departments were extremely sensitive to my own visual concept of the cover design. It was almost as though they could see what I was mentally visualizing. Production has been interesting, but any questions I had during the process were eagerly answered in order to educate me in the process.
In regard to the PR department, even though the process isn't yet complete and we still have work to do, Jeffrey Townsend has been extremely helpful through advise and direction.
Everyone has been wonderful and I would recommend to any first time author to give ABP the opportunity to facilitate the process of making ones dreams a reality. Thank you ABP!"

"I've been pleased with the editing process. It's wonderful that they make sure
you have three good edits before it goes to the copy editor who then checks it
out. That impresses me. I'm impressed with how much American Book Publishing
seems to care about their authors, encouraging them to go out promote their
books. I believe this is a very important part of being an author. I'm grateful
for my publisher and their patience with me. One thing that has thrilled me is
how every book that is printed is of the best quality: the binding seems to hold
very well, pure white trade paper that feels smooth to the touch, color book
covers, and each chapter has a heading that looks professional."

"As you know this is my first book and therefore I do not have any other experience with a publisher on which to base an evaluation of your services; however having said that I am satisfied with all aspects so far.
Soumitro Das my editor did a fine job catching all the little typos etc and was very responsive. Everyone else along the way have been quite professional and I expect that this project will come to a successful conclusion in due time.
My family and I particularly liked the cover design. I believe it captured the essence of the book perfectly and I was very pleased to say the least. I am looking forward to working with Jan and expect she will be very helpful in the marketing phase of this project, which of course will ultimately determine the success of failure of the book."

editing all over again—Adrienne

"Yes, the book looks very good. It was not easy to find a good book cover, but I
am happy with the final result. To my lights the text now reads very well, and
it looks like we have managed to remove all typos. English is a foreign language to me. I was very satisfied with the work of
the editor, who greatly improved the presentation, He also suggested changes and
additions which were worked into the text. The cover design, and cover picture, is very good with relevance to the text,
and it is quite eye-catching. Jana Rade and I looked and considered many cover
designs, and have in the end found something we both are satisfied with. It was a job to get all the
it's crossed and all the it's dotted in the adobe
file. I am grateful to Diane Black for being steadfast to the end. So, I have a good cooperation with ABP.

"I
am impressed that ABP is such an author-friendly book publisher. I have
enjoyed much great help along the way. I am especially impressed by your
prompt assignment of an editor.
"My editor in particular (Lorna Lynch) is outstanding. She went right to
the task and edited my manuscript in a short time. There are several ways that
one can tell an expert. A great editor puts the care and expertise into the
work to ensure that the manuscript is of the highest quality; he/she ensures
that the manuscript has the best possible chance for success; he/she works
well with the author and is flexible, always presenting alternatives; he/she
remains willing to consider the author's counterproposals to suggested
changes; and he/she gives timely updates on the status of the manuscript.
"If these are the characteristics of a great editor, then Lorna Lynch
ranks at the top. I thank you for her. I also have appreciated all of Olen's
advice and help.

"Like
many first-time authors, I ventured into the world of publication with a
heightened degree of apprehension. I
was aware of many so called “horror stories” of other novice writers
attempting to find a company willing to consider their work for publication.
However, my experience with American Book Publishing has shown me that
publishing companies do exist who are anxious to work with first-time authors,
who are willing to invest in the refinement of a “rough” manuscript and
help turn it into a product that is not only extremely marketable, but one in
which exceeds even the author’s expectations.
Working
with ABP has been nothing short of tremendous.
Unlike other publishers I contacted, who seemed bent on finding excuses
not to support my book, ABP identified opportunities for success at the very
outset. Their staff of
professionals aptly and patiently guided me through the entire publication
process without ever once making me feel inferior, or that I was lacking in my
writing skills. I cannot say
enough positive things about the editor I was assigned.
Working with Jennifer Maughan was a wonderful experience.
With her guidance, constructive critique and constant encouragement, my
manuscript blossomed into a noteworthy text, the quality of which far
surpassed the original draft.
The decision to work with ABP in publishing my book was the right one for me
and I look forward to repeating this experience many times over."

"Eileen Forrester was an Editor whose energies never lagged. She directed this writer through the entire editing process with a diligence that can only be termed as exceptional. Her dedication was unflagging in achieving a story line whose narrative and pace left little room for dull moments. She certainly deserves the highest laurels for being the guiding spirit behind this work of literary fiction.
The book cover design was achieved with praiseworthy speed and enthusiasm by a team of skilled artists under the management of Jana Rade, ABP Director of Design. Under her direction , they collectively provided the creative skills that produced an appealing work of art that captures and transmits the feelings of the time and place in which the book's story is set. This appealing end-product was achieved with the joyful and spirited cooperation of all participants.
Guiding the author through the complex maze that constitutes the book marketing process was skillfully accomplished under the marketing strategy developed by Jeffrey T. Townsend, ABP Marketing Director. His experience in this field provided the practical means for boosting the sale of the book in a highly competitive market."

"I
found my editor not only knowledgeable, but always courteous. When she
made suggestions it was done in a positive manner and didn't come across as a

some things remain in the writer's mind and don't get on paper. In the

arduous
ordeal. I have had many personal roadblocks set in my way. The end result is
that ABP is still with me to see the conclusion of my second novel and is
looking forward to my third which will complete the Rain trilogy.
Many people have been involved in the process for the first and second
novels. A wonderful editor by the name of Sandy Jolley taught me quite a lot
of useful preparation. The Art Department took my ideas and combined them
with theirs in order to manke a cover that represents the interior of the
novel. I have gained much respect for all those I have come in contact with

been more than cordial and extremely professional from the moment I signed

I
wish to thank the American Book Publishing (ABP) team for their efforts in
helping to get my book published. After sending over 30 manuscripts to
different LDS publishers from around the country, making some of the changes
they requested only to end up being rejected was painful for me. As a
developing author, I suppose I should have been used to the rejection
notices, but each rejection letter was painful to read.
It came as a complete surprise to me when I received an email from ABP
indicating their desire to publish my manuscript. Initially, I was a little
reluctant to accept their offer, because as a strictly LDS doctrine author,
I have a limited audience of only LDS readers. My book can’t be mass
marketed to the general population.
I
did my research on the internet to find out all I could about ABP. I even
checked with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) to find out any past history.
I wrote to other LDS authors who I discovered had published with them asking
about their experience. I asked the ABP Operations Manager several hard
questions about what I had read on the internet and each question was
answered by to my satisfaction. I felt I was in good hands.
The process was long, and at times frustrating. I was assigned a non-LDS
editor who I was initially reluctant to have because with her not being a
member of the Church, would only raise questions about principles in my
manuscript and slow the process down even further. However, just the
opposite happened. She did have questions, but her questions forced me to
rethink much of my writing to be put in a way that all could understand the
doctrinal principles I was trying to express.
Laura Fortune ended up being a fabulous editor for me who helped me to
“word-smith” my lengthy sentences into more seamless, flowing paragraphs. I
took all the spare time I had to follow her editing advice. It required many
late nights of rewriting. Together, we went through four drafts of the
manuscript and then the manuscript was submitted to the copy edit department
where I was able to get even more feedback.
One thing that really impressed me about Laura was even when the copy edit
was done, she took the time to proof the manuscript one last time before
being submitted to the formatting department.
I approved my cover that was well designed by Jana Rade. I wanted an LDS
Temple on the cover, but since the Church owns the copyright on all Temples,
she did the next best thing by putting a fancy door on the cover which could
represent an LDS Temple. It just required a little imagination.
Now that I have written this book, I am a little wiser about the process.
This will come in very helpful when I ask ABP to publish my next book.
At
the moment, I am well into getting the book publicized in the LDS community
and getting it on the shelves of Deseret Book, Seagull Book, as well as
other LDS bookstores around the country.

"My experience with
ABP has been deeply rewarding. A
first time author, they guided me step by step from the surreal fantasy that a
manuscript complete is already a novel to the reality of professional book
development. They were patient,
encouraging, and motivating through each step.
My editor, Ms Brandi Cameron, was wonderful to work with and seemed
completely in tune with where I needed this story to go.
The resulting work is many magnitudes better than the original raw
effort.
The design
team was particularly patient as we developed a truly great cover for the
book, and the production staff has been flexible and very responsive.
I am extremely pleased that I found ABP and grateful they took a chance
on an unknown author."
